About

The Lakeshore Repeater Association was founded December 23, 1975 to support a communications repeater in the Wisconsin Counties of Racine and Kenosha. The Associations objectives are:

  • To render a public service to governmental agencies during impending storms or severe weather, as well as to assist in disaster relief operation and other community functions as required.
  • To unite the amateur radio operators of this area for the purpose of exerting effectively a combined influence upon matters concerning amateur radio operation.
  • To promote good operating procedures and the exchange of technical information and assistance.
  • To stimulate adherence to a code of ethics, both written and understood.
  • To admonish members to comply with existing FCC rules and regulations.
  • To be an influence to new amateur operators of the area in the operation of their station.
  • To promote good will and fellowship among the members.
  • To further the art of electronics and encourage prospective members to participate in the purposes of the Club.

We Need Your Help

We need your help We do our part to provide Amateur Radio repeater service in Southeastern Wisconsin. But we need your help to keep going. As the Lakeshore Repeater Association is a 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation, to make a tax deductible contribution is easy. You are also encouraged to join the Lakeshore Repeater Association or renew your membership for 2010. Without your help we may not be able to maintain both the UHF and VHF KR9RK Repeater systems.

What is a Repeater?

A repeater is an electronic device that receives a weaker signal and retransmits it at a higher level, so that the signal can cover longer distances without degradation. The term "repeater" originated with Morse code telegraphy and referred to an electromechanical device used to regenerate telegraph signals. Use of the term has continued in telephony and data communications. Today, The Lakeshore Repeaters operate in the VHF and UHF spectrum and retransmit FM voice signals. The repeaters cover a large area in South Eastern Wisconsin and also parts of North Eastern Illinois. These repeaters help the Ham Radio community keep in contact over long distances that would otherwise not be possible in the Very-High and Ultra-High Frequency spectrum.
